Niamh Egan

Owner & Manager of Physiofit

About

Physiofit is run by Chartered Physiotherapist, Niamh Egan, BSc, MSc, MISCP, CORU Registered.

Niamh was exposed to physio from a very early age, having grown up with a family member with spina bifida. Her interest in human movement grew from a love of gymnastics and sports. Physio was he perfect career choice for her!

After completing her BSc degree in Physiotherapy (University of Salford) with first class honours in 2007, Niamh went on to do a MSc in Sports & Exercise Medicine (Trinity College Dublin), in 2009.

In 2010, Niamh worked at the Cerebral Palsy Foundation in Kenya with children with neurological conditions and learnt how to be resourceful when faced with limited equipment.

Returning to Ireland, Niamh worked in a wide variety of physiotherapy settings, including a number of private practices throughout the country, with various sports teams and in Orthopeadics at Aut Even Orthopaedic Hospital, Kilkenny.

Niamh is driven by a desire to understand human function & movement to the deepest level. She completed her Pilates training with the Australian Physio & Pilates Institute in 2010 and has been up skilling and modernising her approach ever since.

Following in her mother’s & sister's footsteps she travelled to Rishikesh, India, to train as a yoga instructor in 2014.  Since then, she has undergone formal training internationally with some of the most renowned movement instructors, including: Meghan Currie, Briohny Smyth, Dice IIda Klein, Sarawsati Jois and Balu Thevar. Niamh is a highly regarded Yoga Instructor with over 700 hours of formal training.

More recently Niamh has trained in modern methods of mobility with Functional Range Conditioning and has moved with the health advice to use more Strength & Conditioning principles within her practice. Niamh like to combine a variety of ancient & more modern movement principles in her classes. She like to use her level of experience to help those who need the most support and encouragement to regain confidence in their bodies after injury or illness. She facilitates a wide range of classes for all levels of ability with her team if expert instructors at her own studio, Physiofit in Nenagh.

Niamh completed post graduate training in Orthopaedic Manual Therapy at Curtain University, Perth, Australia, with the internationally recognised Manual Concepts and now assists with the organisation of their training courses in Ireland. Being involved in on going education, research and professional development with an international organisation enables Niamh to bring a wide spectrum of up-to-date knowledge and research to her patients in Nenagh.

With over 15 years of experience of working as a physiotherapist Niamh has found a flare for treating patients holistically. Her passion for women's health and having experienced a pelvic organ prolapse after childbirth has caused Niamh to upskill in Pelvic Health Physiotherapy over the past 10 years. She is now committed to supporting women with their general and physical health through their life's stages.

Her special interests are in the area of: Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, Chronic Pain, Cognitive Functional Therapy, Manual Therapy & Spinal Mobilisations, Deep Dry Needling, Insoles & Orthotics Prescription, Women’s Health, Mummy MOT, Continency & Bladder Issues, Ante & post Natal, Post Surgical & Orthopaedic Rehabilitation, Pilates Instructor, Yoga Instructor & Mobility Coach.

in 2020, Niamh started a new teaching role as a lecturer in Biomechanics at TUS and loves sharing her passion for research and learning with undergraduate students in Strength & Conditioning.

Niamh now balances work and life through practicing yoga, Pilates and takes time to connect with nature and her young family. She continues to develop her skills and knowledge in the exciting and ever-expanding fields of physiotherapy & movement.
